Residents across the Snowy Valleys are being urged to consider a Plan B when participating in Christmas activities that will see them celebrating with alcohol.

An initiative between Snowy Valleys Council, Transport for NSW and the NSW Police, the What’s Your Plan B? promotion aims at reducing alcohol related crashes on local roads.

The promotion encourages patrons to plan ahead for alternatives to drink driving. By sharing their Plan B on an entry form at participating clubs and hotels they are in the running to win a Swag valued at more than $250.

The fatality rate on country roads is four times than that of metropolitan roads with alcohol-related crashes claiming the lives of at least 64 people on NSW roads last year. This accounts for 18 per cent of all road fatalities, including 52 lives lost on country roads.

The Plan B campaign kicked off in the region on Friday 6th December with nine licensed venues hosting the program.

Snowy Valleys’ Councillors Cr Bruce Wright and Cr Margaret Isselmann said the facts surrounding alcohol-related crashes are alarming and congratulated local venues, especially the outlying villages, for participating in the Plan B promotion.

Patrons can enter the Plan B promotion for a chance to win a swag at the following local venues:

  • Adelong Services & Citizens Club
  • Batlow RSL
  • Tooma Inn
  • Alpine Inn Khancoban
  • Rosewood Golf Club
  • Tumbarumba Bowls Club
  • Union Hotel Tumbarumba
  • Tumut Golf Club
  • Club Tumut

The winning entries will be drawn at venues on Friday 20th December 2019.
