 Free Electronic Waste Voucher Trial

Residents living in the Snowy Valleys can now access a free general waste voucher by downloading the new Snowy Valleys Council Waste App to their phone or tablet. The voucher trial will run until 30 June 2021. Households who download the app can take advantage of disposing of their hard rubbish at a time that suits them.

The Snowy Valleys Council Waste app is available as a free download from the App Store and Google Play.  The app is available for both iOS and Android Devices.

As well as access to the trial waste voucher, use the SVC Waste app to:

  • set alarms for bin night
  • report missed services
  • learn more about what to put in each bin
  • locate your nearest SVC Resource Recovery Centre
  • and much more

 Down load the app to your mobile in three easy steps:

  1. Go to the app store or google play store
  2. Search for 'Snowy Valleys Council Waste'
  3. Install the free app and accept push notifications.

 Waste Weekends

Throughout the year, Council hosts Waste Weekends, allowing members of the community to dispose of larger household items such as mattresses, refrigerators and other large whitegoods and furniture items, free of charge.

The waste weekends occur four times a year in AdelongBatlowKhancobanTalbingoTumbarumba and Tumut.

This service is for residential properties only and does not extend to commercial waste or construction and demolition waste. Sensible volume limits apply and there are safety restrictions on what types of materials can be accepted.

2020/21 Season* 

Spring - Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September 2020

Summer - Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December 2020

Autumn -  Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th March 2021

Winter - Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th June 2021

Waste Weekend Guidelines

  • Residents can dispose of up to 1 cubic metre of general non-recyclable waste per day. Charges will apply for volumes exceeding 1 cubic metre.
  • A cubic metre is about 4 large wheelie bins, or a standard ute load, standard box trailer load or a standard large mattress. 
  • Commercial quantities of chemicals, asbestos and truck/tractor tyres will not be accepted over the weekend and there is a minimum of 2 standard car tyres allowed per load.
  • Always sort your waste from recycling and cover your load
  • Have your rates notice or drivers licence on hand to prove that you live in the Snowy Valleys Council area 

What can I recycle for free everyday?

  • Cardboard, paper, steel, aluminium, car batteries and used motor oil can all be disposed of for free during operating hours at all Snowy Valleys' Waste and Recycling sites.
  • The Tumbarumba and Tumut Community Recycling Centres also accept the following recycled materials all year round at no charge:
    • E-Waste
    • Paint
    • Household Batteries
    • Gas Bottles
    • Other Oils
    • Smoke Detectors
    • Fire Extinguishers 
    • Fluoro Globes and Tubes
