Council Opens Entry-Level Program Applications

School leavers, mature-age job hunters, or those looking for a career change can now apply for traineeships, cadetships and apprenticeships with Council.

Snowy Valleys Council continues to honour its commitment to providing opportunities for local growth by announcing its 2024 Entry Level Program.

Positions range from 12 months to eight years and can be tailored to meet both the needs of the candidate and the business.

Eight entry-level roles are currently available across a range of functions including GIS & Assets, Health & Safety, Customer Service, Water & Wastewater, Childcare, Parks & Gardens, and Growth & Development.

  • Horticulture Apprenticeship - a four year fix term role learning all aspects of parks and gardens maintenance with completion of a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens through an approved registered training organisation. Applicants must have completed year 12 or equivalent.
  • Surveying and Spatial Information Services Traineeship - an 18 month fixed term role working with Council’s GIS and Assets team learning about and maintaining asset databases as well learning all aspects of survey and asset design.
  • Planning Cadetship - a full time or part time fixed term contract of up to 8 years with Council’s Growth and Development team whilst also continuing university studies. Applicants must be currently enrolled in the University of New England’s Bachelor or Graduate Diploma of Urban and Regional Planning.
  • Customer Service Traineeship - a 12 month fixed term role with on-the-job learning in all aspects of creating a positive customer experience as well as end-to-end processes like bookings, receipting, security access and database management. Applicants must have completed year 12 or equivalent.
  • Water & Wastewater Traineeship - a 24 month fixed term role learning end-to-end treatment operations for both water and wastewater while completing a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations through an approved registered training organisation. Applicants must have completed year 12 or equivalent.
  • Work, Health and Safety Traineeship - a 12 month fixed term role assisting the Safety Team and learning all aspects of creating and maintaining a safe work environment while completing a Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety through a registered training organisation. Applicants must have completed year 12 or equivalent.
  • Trainee Arborist - a 3-year fixed term role learning hands-on all aspects of shaping and canopy management, tree health and remediation, environmental and habitat development, and tree dismantling and removal while completing a Certificate III in Arboriculture through an approved registered training organisation. Applicants must have completed year 12 or equivalent.
  • Children’s Services Trainee Educator - an opportunity to join Council’s early childcare team in an 18 month fixed term role where you will gain on the job experience while studying a Certificate III in Early Childcare Education through an approved registered training organisation.

The entry-level positions offer exciting opportunities for people to learn on the job while undertaking a vocational or tertiary qualification and successful applicants will be supervised by fully qualified staff and receive quality education that matches their requirements.

Course fees are covered by the organisation or government, and candidates are offered paid time to complete their studies. The skills learned will enable them to leave the program as well rounded and competent employees, able to take on new challenges in new fields.
