Return and Earn
Snowy Valleys residents can get a 10 cent refund for eligible drink containers at the Tumut Waste and Recycling Centre.
As part of the NSW Government’s container deposit scheme Return and Earn, a collection point has been established in the Re-Use shop at the Tumut Waste and Recycling Centre Gilmore.
The NSW Return and Earn scheme will help to reduce the 160 million drink containers littered in our environment each year. Drink containers make up almost half of the volume of litter in NSW.
Eligible drink containers include most between 150mls and three litres, uncrushed, unbroken and with the original label attached. For more information visit the Return and Earn website
Tumut Re-Use Shop
You can now take your old, but reusable items to the Re-Use Shop at Tumut Waste Centre, Gilmore. Goods dropped off at the Re-Use Shop will be cleaned and sold through the shop. Not only a great way for you to clean up, but you may also find yourself quite the bargain!

Waste Fees & Charges
While residents are able to drop off recycling to depots at no charge, there may be fees charged for other types of rubbish and this may vary by location. Materials that are destined for landfill attract a charge that is designed to cover the costs of dealing with the material.

Asbestos
Please Note: Asbestos disposal is not accepted within the Snowy Valleys Council area.
Ecofill landfill at Jugiong operated by Bald Hill Quarry Pty Ltd is licensed to accept Asbestos from Snowy Valleys residents and businesses.

Illegal Dumping
If you become aware of illegal waste dumping, please help us protect our beautiful Snowy Valleys environment by reporting the matter confidentially to Council. Dumpers are being caught and fined thanks to the information provided by responsible residents.
Severe fines are applied to those who dump waste or use informal sites for rubbish disposal (often exceeding $4,000). When fines are added to clean up costs, that are also imposed, the real cost of illegal dumping is many times higher than the cost of doing the right thing in the first place.
