NRL Bus Trip

Youth Council scores big with first NRL trip - 17 April 2026

Snowy Valleys Youth Council’s first-ever bus trip has been a great success, with 50 young people travelling to Canberra’s GIO Stadium to watch the Canberra Raiders take on the Melbourne Storm.

The group, representing communities across the Snowy Valleys, saw a close match with the Raiders edging out a 26–22 win. Tumut’s Patrick Stuart also picked the exact final score in the “pick the score” competition, taking home a prize.

For many, it was their first time attending a live game, adding to the excitement of the night.

After full time, the group stayed on for photos and autographs, rounding out a memorable experience. One participant summed it up simply: “I had so much fun especially for my first game!”

The inaugural Youth Council bus trip reflects its commitment to creating inclusive, engaging opportunities that build connection, confidence and community spirit among local young people.

Outdoor Movie Night

Under clear skies, the Snowy Valleys community gathered at Tumut Rotary Pioneer Park for Council’s first Pop-Up Outdoor Movie, delivered by the Youth Council.

More than 150 people from across the region settled in under the stars with, blankets, picnic rugs and plenty of snacks to enjoy a screening of the 2025 live-action How to Train Your Dragon.

The night featured a Youth Council BBQ fundraiser, popcorn, drinks and lolly bags, along with bean bags and relaxed lighting that helped create a family-friendly outdoor cinema atmosphere.

Youth Council members Cr Andrew Wortes, Amy Murphy and Anna Stuart officially opened the event, thanking the community for its support in bringing the night to life.

With a strong turnout and positive feedback, the Youth Council is already looking at more events like this in the future.

This event was funded by the NSW Government Office for Youth as part of Youth Week.
