Bull Paddock Funding

Tumut’s Bull Paddock sportsground will receive a $297,130 boost from the NSW Stronger Country Communities Fund for essential upgrades to two playing fields.

Member for Wagga Wagga Daryl Maguire made the announcement on Tuesday at a meeting with Snowy Valleys Council officials.

The NSW Government has committed $200 million over the next two years for applications to support local infrastructure projects that will improve amenity and help sustain the social bonds at the heart of strong regional communities.

Council Mayor James Hayes said the grant was welcomed by the whole Tumut community as the Bull Paddock is a major sports facility for the town.

“Tumut is a town with a strong sporting tradition, and the sports that use the Bull Paddock are some of the most popular in the region,” Clr Hayes said.

Funding for the upgrade project will be used to improve drainage, install an automatic irrigation system and returf the two main playing fields.

“The Bull Paddock is an important local and regional sporting facility that is currently not fit-for-purpose, and is frequently closed due to poor conditions,” Clr Hayes said.

Continued battering from Tumut’s long, cold and wet winter have left the playing fields in a poor state of repair and the grounds are frequently unusable due to waterlogging and boggy conditions.

Upgrade of the two ovals will include removing an estimated 1000 tonnes of existing vegetation, installing a slit drainage system and automatic irrigation system and the planting of 1800 sqm of new turf.

Mayor Hayes said Council had recently invested $40,000 capital projects money in surface refurbishments on a section at the northern end of the field and this new funding will allow the two southern most fields to be upgraded.

“The results will be high standard playing fields for local and visiting sporting clubs including the home team, the Tumut Eagles Football Club,” Clr Hayes said.

The project will be advertised for tender applications with the successful tenderer required to undertake the project over the summer months.
