Landscaping works are underway in the Tumbarumba CBD this week as stage two of the $1.1 million facelife for Hammonds Lane takes shape.

Council's Acting General Manager, David Aber said that the community will notice a big difference as the gardens and landscaping work is completed on the eastern side of the laneway.

"The planing of advanced deciduous trees and the gardens on the eastern side of the laneway are being completed this week.  The irrigation systems are being installed at the same time to enable watering as we enter the warmer months," he said.

Once completed, stage two of the multi-phased project will see hard and soft landscaping and public art installations including lighting, paving and footpaths installed.

"Residents will have already noticed some public art sculptures installed over past weeks and a number of comments have been recieved on them." Mr Aber said.

Stage one of the project is now completed, including the design of a five year masterplan, an overhaul of the stormwater and sewerage infrastructure, relocation of the bus stop, car parking and new kerb and guttering.

"The widening of the laneway and improved access to the rear of the commercial and retail businesses has also been completed as part of the stage one." Mr Aber said.

The combined budget is $760,000 for stages one and two and has been funded through the 2017/18 capital projects budget.

"Stage two of the upgrade to be completed in December." Mr Aber said.

Stage three of the project involves the installation of the reclaimed and restored waterwheel on the banks of the creek near the Albury Street Bridge.

Funded through the Stronger Communities Major Projects Program, stage three will not commence until 2019.
