The April meeting of the Life Long Learners Group welcomed ABC radio personality Adrian Podmore as guest speaker.

Over 25 community members, including several new faces enjoyed a presentation by Adrian covering gardening tips and tricks.

The presentation covered topics including suggestions on hardy, tolerant plants to grow in the local area, ideas to make gardening easier, irrigation techniques, mulches and much more.

Adrian brought along a huge number of plant cuttings from his property in East Wagga Wagga, which were all suitable for growing in the Tumut region.

He spoke about each one, describing its characteristics, tips on where to plant and how to maintain it and also some lessons on what not to do.

The audience was highly engaged in the talk and peppered Adrian with questions about their own gardens and planting queries, soaking up Adrian’s vast gardening knowledge.

Council’s Director Strategy, Community and Development Gus Cox said it was fantastic to see so many people come along to attend the talk.

“The 2018 program is full of intelligent speakers covering diverse topics, and we are encouraged by the interest and attendance so far,” Mr Cox said.

The Life Long Learner sessions take place in the Tumut Community Support Building (below the Library) on Wynyard St with a guest speaker from 10am. The group meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month.

Future topics include Trustees and Guardianships and Science Week and there will be a road trip to the Kosciuszko National park in November for guided tours of some of the historic huts.

The next Life Long Learners event will be held on Thursday 10 May during Asthma Awareness Week with guest speaker Katie Cardogan, Respiratory Care Coordinator from Community Health.

The full program of events can be viewed and downloaded from Council’s website www.snowyvalleys.nsw.gov.au/life-long-learners or pick up a hard copy from the Tumut Library or Council offices.
