Site work will begin at the Tumbarumba Showground next week in preparation for the installation of the new amenities building which now includes female change rooms.

Council’s Acting Director Assets and Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said “The new amenities block at the showground will provide users with enhanced facilities and the addition of a female change room will be a welcome improvement for visitors attending major events at the showgrounds.”

Site preparation will include demolition of the existing buildings and the removal of one mature tree. “The addition of the female change rooms increased the footprint of the amenity building, requiring the removal of one mature tree,” Mr Kausche said.

The location of the building and the need to remove the tree was decided in conjunction with members from the Tumbarumba Showground user groups. As part of the project two advanced trees will be planted in late autumn.

The new amenities building is being prefabricated off-site and delivery is expected in the coming weeks. The new building will provide more male and female toilets for major events and the additional two change rooms will have capacity to support camp drafts and home and away teams for football games.

The installation of the amenities block marks the completion of $1.15m upgrades at the showground since work started in March this year. Work completed so far includes new ground surface, irrigation, drainage and fencing.

Funding of $1 million was allocated for the Tumbarumba showground upgrade as part of the NSW Government’s Major Projects Infrastructure. Further $150k was received through the Sport Election Commitments Program to add a female change room to the amenities building.
