Works on the reconstruction of a 1.5km long section of Yaven Creek Road are nearing completion with a new spay seal now laid down.

Council Director Assets and Infrastructure Matt Christensen said the 1.5km section of Yaven Creek Road, just off the intersection of Snowy Mountains Highway was regularly impacted by stormwater flooding

“The flooding had caused significant deformation of the road surface along with potholing, edge breaks and cracking. Sight distances along this section of the roadway were also limited impacting on road safety,” Mr Christensen said.

This road reconstruction project has been undertaken in accordance with Council’s roads rehabilitation and renewal program and Council allocated $625,000 from its Capital Works Fund to undertake the critical reconstruction works.

Undertaken in several stages the reconstruction work commenced with the installation of new stormwater culverts and the reforming of the roadside drains and batters.

Sections of the roadway were also widened, reformed and stabilised to achieve a hard wearing pavement that underlies the final seal.

“Some further batter erosion control works will be completed over the next couple of weeks along with the aftercare of the new sealed surface,” Mr Christensen said.

Users of the road are asked to take care when traveling along the newly sealed section of the roadway as it may be slippery while the new surface stabilises.
