In My Own Words is raw, heartfelt, sometimes painstaking but often funny.
The film follows a group of Aboriginal adults from Brewarrina, a rural northwest NSW town, over a number of weeks, as they participate in a Literacy for Life Foundation program, learning to read and write for the first time. A Blackfella Film by filmmaker Erica Glynn
More than 40% of Aboriginal adults have low levels of English literacy and in remote areas the figures can be as high as 70%.
