Snowy Ensembles - Pop Barock Khancoban

Snowy Valleys Council in conjunction with the Riverina Conservatorium of Music are pleased to present Snowy Ensembles, a series of fine music performances held across the Snowy Valleys region.

 Khancoban’s Alpine Inn will be the location of the first performance of the tour on Sunday 23 June when audiences will enjoy the dynamic string and wind ensemble ‘PopBarock’ performing versions of modern pop hits.

PopBarock is a quartet including the talents of Rhiannon Xeros (violin), Harold Gretton (guitar), David Chaston (cello) and Kimberley Scriven (recorders).

PopBarock was conceived by recorder virtuoso Kimberley, who dreamed of a mixed ensemble, fusing early performance practices with modern pop music, as well as older repertoire. Many intense, late-night jam sessions resulted in an eclectic repertoire, with Coldplay consoling Corelli, Taylor Swift titillating Telemann, Ed Sheeran edifying Boccherini, and Balkan Folk clashing with Estonian Dance, all united by the unique sound-world of the ensemble's unusual timbre, and the musicians' deep love of music-making.
