Four brave Tumbarumba locals will join Gus Worland from Gotcha4Life on Monday 17 May to share personal bushfire recovery stories, and their journey to connecting and taking the first steps in reaching out for help.

Snowy Valleys Council is partnering with Gotcha4Life founder Gus Worland to host ‘A Night on the Couch’ to bring people together to talk about their recovery journey and experiences in asking for help.

Mayor James Hayes said Council was proud to be supporting the initiative.

“Staying connected and reaching out when you need help are so important in the recovery journey and I applaud the four Tumbarumba residents who will share their stories in support of others facing the same issues,” he said.

According to Gotcha4Life, the alarming statistics surrounding suicide in Australia indicate that eight beautiful people take their life every day.

Gus Worland set up the Gotcha4Life foundation to encourage Aussies to speak up, express their emotions and ensure they all have a close friend in life that they can go to when times are tough.

Gus says “My vision is zero suicides – simple as that. We see a world where people are open, honest and supportive in their relationships and comfortable to express themselves when they are not ok. A society in which everyone has a Gotcha4life mate, that go-to person who they can open up to and rely on no matter what”.

The night kicks off with a free BBQ dinner on Monday 17 May 2021starting at 6pm, and John Harper from Matekeeper will also be presenting information on how to become a good mate.

“I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about how to support their own wellbeing and how to support others on the same journey,” said Clr Hayes.
