Adelong Main Street Façade Initiative

Owners of commercial buildings in Adelong are being invited to apply for up to $10,000 in funding to assist with improving the street appeal of their properties located in Tumut Street, Adelong.

Snowy Valleys Council has received $100,000 in funding, through the NSW Stronger Communities Fund Round 2 (SCF2) in a one-off funding program for the Adelong Main Street Façade initiative.

Council’s Mayor Cr James Hayes said the funding offers a fantastic opportunity for Council to directly work with and assist property owners to upgrade the presentation of their buildings.

“The Adelong Main Street Façade initiative provides businesses with an opportunity to freshen up their shopfront, thereby improving the appearance of the main street, which has positive flow on effects in attracting customers and visitors to the region,” Cr Hayes said.

“Our main streets are the heart and soul of our communities and where much of our economic activity is generated. If our streets look attractive and vibrant, it will encourage more people to shop locally and for new businesses to start up”.

The Façade initiative’s purpose is to provide financial incentive to Adelong business and property owners to upgrade the exterior of their buildings. The funding guidelines outline the monies can be used for painting, signwriting, repair and clean-up of commercial buildings.

Applicants must own commercial property or a business located within Adelong’s Main Street (Tumut Street).  Businesses leasing space must obtain authorisation from the building’s owner as part of the application process.

Property owners and Lessee retailers may also wish to contribute additional funds to their project.

Projects must be completed by 14 December 2019 and all exterior painting must adhere to the approved Adelong Heritage colour palette.

“By improving the street’s appearance and making Adelong a town even more inviting to visitors, we’re hoping to encourage people to stop and shop, rather than travelling through,” Cr Hayes said.

Applications can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.svc.nsw.gov.au/Adelong-Facade-Grants and hard copies are also available from Adelong’s Bendigo Bank.

All grant applications must be received by 4.30pm on Sunday 19 May 2019.
