Australia Day Awards 2023 - Nominations Now Open

Nominations are now open for the 2023 Snowy Valleys Council Australia Day Awards.

The awards are presented annually by Council to promote and recognise outstanding examples of citizenship and achievement within the Snowy Valleys region.

Australia Day is the biggest day of celebration in the country and the 26 of January is observed as a public holiday in all states and territories.

Snowy Valleys Council will celebrate Australia Day 2023 with a ceremony in Tumut's Stockwell Gardens and the presentation of the Snowy Valleys Region Australia Day Awards. 

Australia Day Awards are a chance to celebrate local people, their stories, their achievements, and the part they play in the community, no matter how large or small.

The 2023 Award Categories are:

  • Snowy Valleys Citizen of the Year - Recognises individuals aged 30 and over who have made an outstanding contribution to the Snowy Valleys community over many years.
  • Snowy Valleys Young Citizen of the Year - Recognises individuals aged 16-30 who have made an inspirational contribution to the Snowy Valleys community.
  • Snowy Valleys Service to the Community - Recognises individuals or organisations who have made a noteworthy contribution to the Snowy Valleys community.
  • Snowy Valleys Sports Person of the Year - Recognises individuals who have achieved sporting success representing their club or association at regional, state level or above.
  • Snowy Valleys Sports Team of the Year - Recognises sporting groups who have achieved sporting success at a representative level for their club or association at regional, state level or above.
  • Snowy Valleys Environmental Champion of the Year - Recognises individuals or organisations championing litter reduction and/or environmental initiatives in the Snowy Valleys community.

Nominate your local hero today via Council’s website or by picking up a hard copy nomination form from Council Offices and Libraries.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 9 December 2022.
