Young adults can get free practical, hands-on car maintenance experience by attending a Basic Car Skills Workshop happening in April as part of NSW Youth Week.

Snowy Valleys Council is partnering with the NSW Police and Transport for NSW to host two workshops for youth aged 16 to 24 years old who may have just started driving or bought their first car.

Led by Council’s trained mechanics, participants will get hands-on experience in basic car maintenance.

They should leave the workshop feeling confident to know how to keep a car running properly, including how to change a tyre, check tyre pressure and tread, fit a car seat, check oil, replace fluids like windscreen and coolant and jump-start an engine.

Lunch will be provided during the workshop and NSW Police will be on hand to answer questions and chat about safe driving techniques.

Workshops will be held at Council’s Depots in Tumut and Tumbarumba, hosting a maximum of 15 people per session.

Attendees will have safety equipment provided and can learn in a fun, hands-on and non-judgmental environment.

Workshop Dates:

  • Wed 17 Apr - 10.30am to 2.30pm - SVC Depot Workshop, 47 Booth St, Tumbarumba
  • Wed 24 Apr – 10.30am to 2.30pm - SVC Depot Workshop, 1 Gocup Rd, Tumut

Bookings essential via council’s website www.svc.nsw.gov.au/carskills-workshop
