Community Art Grant Recipients Announced

Arts and Development Grants 2019

Festival entertainment, local theatre props, a choral concert, nursing home musical entertainment and a garden sculpture competition are just some of the projects receiving funding through Council’s 2019 Art & Cultural Development Grants.

Snowy Valleys Council in partnership with Snowy Hydro recently awarded $22,959 in funding for local community arts and cultural development events.

Council’s Mayor Cr James Hayes congratulated the grant recipients and said the quality of applications was high again this year.

“The assessment process was extremely competitive and it’s gratifying to learn about the exciting programs, events, festivals and projects that local community groups wish to deliver,” he said.

In 2018 successful community projects and programs using grant funds included the Tumut Potter’s Raku pottery workshop, the Adelong preschool’s cultural day and the Aboriginal Women’s Regional Yarn Up.

Nine projects were successful in receiving 2019 Art & Cultural Development grants:

  • Artists on Parade – Massed Choirs Choral Concert - $2,500
  • Festival of the Falling Leaf - Festival entertainment - $4,000
  • Franklin Public School – Combined public schools band mentor program - $4,000
  • Tumbarumba District Garden Club – Spring flower festival sculpture competition - $700
  • Tumut & District Historical Society – Historical book publishing - $1,000
  • Tumut Golf Club – Classics on Course event - $5,000
  • Tumut Performing Arts Society – Costumes and props for stage play ‘Skeleton Crew’ - $1,000
  • Tumut Rock the Turf Committee – Event security and fencing - $4,000
  • Tumut Valley Country Music Club – Entertainment at nursing homes - $759

"The interest we receive each year is a testament to the positive impact the grants are having in the Snowy Valleys area,” said Cr Hayes.

The 2019 independent assessment panel included Councillors and representatives from Snowy Hydro and Eastern Riverina Arts.
