Council is keen to hear from locals about their experiences with flooding events around Brungle to help inform a Brungle Flood Study.

Council is keen to collect community records of the events such as photographs of flood marks or observations of flood behaviour that locals may have witnessed.

Information being sought includes recent floods like March 2012, February 2019, January 2022, October 2022 and November 2022, as well as any earlier floods events.

Community members are invited to share their local knowledge and flooding experiences in person at a Community Pop-Up to be held in early September.

Brungle Flood Study Pop-up

  • Wednesday 4 September
  • 12.30pm to 2.30pm
  • Brungle Memorial Hall

The Brungle Flood Study aims to provide an understanding of the nature and extent of potential flooding from the Brungle Creek, other tributaries of Tumut River (Mainstream flooding) and local stormwater runoff that drains to these waterways (overland flow).

The first stage of the study development involves the collection, compilation, and review of all available information, including valuable community knowledge and experiences of past floods.

When finalised the Study will give Council a better understanding of the current flood risk to the Brungle community and support a range of Council functions including development, planning, community education, and mitigation works.

This project is supported by the NSW Government’s Floodplain Management Program which aims to reduce the impacts of flooding and flood liability on individual owners and occupiers and to minimise private and public losses resulting from flooding.

An online survey is also open for anyone who can’t attend the pop-up.
