Community Invited To Help Shape the Regions Future

Community members are invited to help shape the future of the region as Council launches its Towards 2042 consultation project this February.

Snowy Valleys Council is reviewing the Community Strategic Plan which was created back in 2021 and is keen for people to share what they, friends, family, and the wider community might need to grow and thrive into the future.

Mayor Ian Chaffey shared that he looked forward to collaborating with the community in updating the Community Strategic Plan.

“It’s your chance to tell us what should stay and what might need to change, as we head towards 2042,” Cr Chaffey said.

Cr Chaffey explained that the Council has a custodial role in initiating and preparing the Community Strategic Plan, but that it is a community plan.

“Many partners, such as community groups and state agencies along with Council, will be responsible for its implementation,” he said.

“The Community Strategic Plan ensures the whole community is working towards a shared vision for the future.”

Community members have several opportunities to conveniently share their thoughts, including completing the online survey, attending a community workshop, and for younger residents, using the creative drawing kits.

For those without internet access hard copies of the survey will also be available at local Libraries and council offices.

People will also be able to take part in community workshops happening in towns across the region and drawing kits are available for schools so that young people can share what they think their community’s future might look like.

Every local government area in New South Wales must work with their community to develop a Community Strategic Plan. This stems from the central assumption that all council planning should originate from a sound understanding of the community’s expectations around priorities.
