Interested community members are invited to attend Community Information Sessions in early February to view the draft concept designs and learn more about the Multipurpose & Evacuation Centre (MEC) project.

The Community Information Sessions will allow locals to view the draft concept designs, hear directly from the architects and chat with council staff about the project.

At two information sessions on Tuesday 11 February, locals can hear directly from the specialist architects, Facility Design Group, who will present the draft MEC concept designs and take community questions related to the designs.

A casual drop-in day will be held on Wednesday 12 February where people can drop by at their leisure to view the draft designs and chat with council staff about the project.

Those who are unable to attend either of these opportunities can also book a one-on-one meeting on Thursday 13 February with council's project manager.

Council has engaged Facility Design Group Pty Ltd to prepare the detailed design and oversee all documentation required for lodging a Development Application (DA).

The concept designs are being informed by community feedback received during the pop-up held last December, as well as from discussions held with the user group and Councillors. The concerns being addressed include parking, lighting, noise, building cooling options and multisport needs.

The purpose-built facility, proposed to be built at Richmond Park, will be the size of two sports courts catering for multiple indoor sports, allowing for local, regional and state sporting competitions as well as a facility to host conferences, local school and community events and be an evacuation meeting point in times of disaster.

Council received funding from the NSW Government and Commonwealth Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund (BLERF) to build a Multipurpose Centre in Tumut which has sufficient capacity to double as an Evacuation Centre in times of emergency.
