Construction Progressing on Multipurpose and Evacuation Centre

Construction of the new Multipurpose and Evacuation Centre at Richmond Park in Tumut is continuing to progress, with the building beginning to take shape after five months of work on site.
The Mayor and Councillors recently toured the site and noted the significant progress that has been made.
Mayor Julia Ham said it was encouraging to see the facility coming together.
“It was great to personally see the progress being made on site, and I commend Council’s project team and the contractor for working hard to keep the construction program on track,” Mayor Ham said.
“Once complete this will be an important facility providing a versatile space for events and activities as well as a dedicated evacuation centre when required.”
Multiple trades are now on site, with structural wall panels and the roof complete and external cladding underway. The building features lighter fibre cement and darker steel finishes, which, along with landscaping, will soften its appearance and complement the surrounding area.
Concrete works are continuing, with the internal floor slab now poured. Further pours are planned for the car park, driveway and footpaths.
Connections to essential services, including sewer, water and stormwater, are nearing completion.
One final sewer connection will be constructed beneath Robinson Street to link the building to Council’s main line, with nearby residents to be notified of any temporary disruptions via letterbox drop.
Community members who attended the February Community Project Meeting heard firsthand about the latest project updates. With the project moving into its final stages, two further community project meetings are planned for April and June.
Council will soon be calling for Expressions of Interest for an operator to manage the facility on Council’s behalf when it opens later this year.
The project is supported by $13.8 million through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund under the jointly funded Australian and NSW Governments Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
