Behind the scenes work on the Batlow Caravan Park’s Itinerant Worker Accommodation project continues to gain momentum.

A Development Application for the project has been advanced with associated reports being compiled including a Building Code Australia report, Bushfire assessment, detailed engineering plans and an environmental statement.

The new building structures are also currently being prefabricated off site and are on track to be delivered to the park for installation in September 2022.

The Batlow Caravan Park has space available to house an increased number of permanent accommodation options which will help support local industries and replace the important infrastructure destroyed by the black summer fires.

The project will provide dorm-style accommodation at the park to support local industries in housing seasonal and construction workers.

The scope of works includes two blocks of 25 backpacker beds, 6 studio units, a camp kitchen, relocatable unisex accessible amenities including laundry and cleaning room, landscaping, and updated park entry.

The new building’s exterior will complement the existing facilities that formed part of council’s extensive 2020 Batlow Caravan Park upgrade.

Snowy Valleys Council received $3,952,571 in funding from the NSW Government's Bushfire Industry Package – Sector Development Grants for construction of infrastructure at the Batlow Caravan Park to increase modes of accommodation available for itinerant workers who are employed in the horticultural industry across the region.

The Total Budget for the project is $4,128,571, which includes a Council Co-Contribution of $176,000.

The project must meet the required timelines associated with the grant funding, with construction estimated to be complete by December 2022.
