Snowy Valleys Council has submitted its de-amalgamation business case to the Minister for Local Government.

The submission included a copy of the University of Newcastle’s Report – Snowy Valleys Council - Evidence Regarding Advantages and Disadvantages of De-amalgamation and an overview summary.

Mayor Ian Chaffey said that the submission was necessary to provide certainty for the community and council staff.

“The stress levels of the community and staff warrant that the de-amalgamation proposal be determined promptly,” said Cr Chaffey.

“The Council is of the opinion that Professor Drew’s (University of Newcastle) Report clearly articulates the views and concerns of a significant number of residents and ratepayers.”

In July this year, Mayor Chaffey and Deputy Mayor Thomson met with the Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Ron Hoenig MP, to advocate for a de-amalgamation and they were advised to use the statutory pathway provided by the current Local Government Act.
