Snowy Valleys Council will soon release an Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the operation of its four Caravan Parks in Tumut, Adelong, Batlow, and Tumbarumba.

Council’s Executive Director Infrastructure & Works Duncan Mitchell said Council is keen to explore different operating options for its Caravan Parks as part of looking at improving the performance of all revenue streams that it oversees.

“These facilities provide significant value to Council, and with the leases expiring in the next six months it presents an opportunity to explore how the caravan parks will be managed into the future,” said Mr Mitchell.

“We also acknowledge the importance of tourism, accommodation, and the complimentary social and economic benefits to the townships in which they are located, so viability, customer experience and community benefit are also important elements of the Expression of Interest.”

Current operator lease and licence agreements with council have expired or are due to expire in the next six months.

Mr Mitchell said that all current operators had been apprised of the council’s plans and that they would be invited to submit an application when the EOI was released.

“The EOI will not be purely commercially focused - it will be a balance of both commercial and non-commercial benefits that all the caravan parks can bring to the community.

“There is a unique opportunity for a single operator or consortium of operators to take on the management of these important recreational facilities in partnership with Council’, said Mr Mitchell.

The EOI will be released by the end of November, and it will be in the market until February 2024. Outcomes of the EOI will then be presented to Councillors in March/April for their consideration.
