Snowy Valleys Council will host Community Meetings in Batlow, Tumut and Tumbarumba to present Special Rate Variation (SRV) options and other financial sustainability initiatives to the community.

The community meetings follow community pop-ups held in towns across the region in late October where community members had the opportunity to speak one-on-one about the SRV and ask their questions.

Interim General Manager Steven Pinnuck said that the community meetings would be a further opportunity for people to hear firsthand about the SRV options currently being investigated and other initiatives council was looking to implement.

“Another SRV alone will not be sufficient to ensure Council’s financial sustainability and a range of other initiatives will also need to be implemented including increasing income streams and reducing expenditure,” Mr Pinnuck said.

“I encourage everyone to join Councillors and senior staff at a community meeting and learn more about the proposed plans.”

SRV Community Meetings:

  • Tuesday 28 November – Tumbarumba RSL Hall – 7.00pm to 8.30pm
  • Wednesday 29 November – Tumut Montreal Community Theatre – 7.00pm to 8.30pm
  • Tuesday 5 December – Batlow Literary Institute – 7.00pm to 8.30pm

Two permanent SRV options are being explored to help in achieving a balanced operating position for council.

Option one would see 18% increases over two consecutive years (39.24% cumulative) while option two would see 12.5% increases over three consecutive years (42.38% cumulated).
