Council To Retain SVC Brand Following Community Feedback

At its Extraordinary Meeting held on 2 July, Snowy Valleys Council has resolved to retain the existing Snowy Valleys Council (SVC) brand following the outcomes of a community survey undertaken as part of the de-amalgamation process.

In line with the community survey results, which showed strong community support for maintaining the current SVC identity, Council resolved to retain the Snowy Valleys Council brand and extend its use to the new northern Council (formerly the Tumut Shire Council area) upon proclamation.

Chief Transition Officer Nicole Jenkins said the decision reflects both community sentiment and practical efficiencies during the transition process.

“Council determined that the brand is widely recognised and continues to hold strong value across the region,” Ms Jenkins said.

“Council also noted that this approach will deliver cost savings by avoiding the need for a full rebrand and has resolved to adjust the De-amalgamation Project budget accordingly.”

In another resolution, Council also confirmed that community consultation will be undertaken to determine the preferred naming convention for the new Southern Council.

Ms Jenkins said this consultation will commence following the establishment of the De-amalgamation Community Panel, which is anticipated to occur in August 2026.

Council is continuing to invite expressions of interest from community members to join the De-amalgamation Community Panel, which will play an important role in guiding consultation and providing local input throughout the transition period.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to complete the online Expression of Interest form, outlining their interest in the process, the perspectives they would bring, and their connection to the local community.
