Snowy Valleys Council has agreed to temporarily manage Roth’s Corner Medical Centre and seek to contract a locum doctor for up to 6 months to support the Tumbarumba community.

An assessment panel including community representatives was convened to assess three EOI submissions to lease the Centre and to put a recommendation back to Council.

The panel recommended that Council not appoint a preferred lessee and for Council to take operation of the centre in the short term, via a locum, while continuing to recruit for a General Practitioner to lease.

Council’s Acting Director Phil Stone said work is continuing with Murrumbidgee Local Health Services and the existing employees of the Roth’s Corner Medical Centre to discuss the best options for sourcing a locum as soon as possible.

“Leases with the current dental and pathology services will also be renegotiated to ensure these services continue to be offered to the Tumbarumba community,” Mr Stone said.

Council staff will work to engage a private recruitment agency to secure a General Practitioner to lease the centre long term and Murrumbidgee Local Health Service and Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network are assisting.
