Snowy Valleys Council has ushered in a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Ian Chaffey has been elected as Mayor of Snowy Valleys, and Councillor Trina Thomson elected as Deputy Mayor at an Extraordinary Meeting held on 11 January, with both terms to run until September 2023.

After being elected Cr Chaffey said it was a privilege to lead Snowy Valleys for the next 21 months and congratulated Cr Thomson on her position.

“I hope together we can provide a different style of leadership,” Mayor Chaffey said.

“I’d also like to congratulate my fellow Councillors on their election and thank everyone who took the opportunity to voice their opinion at the recent elections; I found the results very humbling.

“We now have to live up to the expectations of those who voted for us.”

The Extraordinary Meeting was livestreamed on Council’s YouTube channel and can be viewed at www.youtube.com/c/snowyvalleyscouncil.

The first Ordinary Meeting of Council will be held on 20 January starting at 2pm.

The meeting agenda and business papers will be available on Council’s website closer to the meeting date.
