Council will apply for Federal Government funding under the Local Road Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Grants to construct new footpaths around Tumut and Tumbarumba to help pedestrian connectivity and make walking or riding a bike to schoool easier and safer.

Council’s annual footpath budget currently maintains over 99kms of footpaths across the region including the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail and any new paths are prioritised on safety and usage.

Applications will be made for funding to construct the following footpaths:
  • Along Herbert Street, Tumut linking to existing footpaths on Lambie Street and Bogong Place adjacent to the Tumut High School
  • Along the outside of the Franklin School boundary to extend the existing footpath on Forest Street and up and along Blowering Road finishing opposite Lockeridge Drive Tumut
  • An extension to the Lambie Street southern side footpath from Forest Street to Wilga Place Tumut
  • An extension to the Capper Street footpath from Clarke Street and the Snowy Mountains Highway that will connect the main CBD area of Tumut with key attractions including the Visitor Information Centre and as a loop option connecting with the Tumut River Walk
  • A 502m connection around Park Street, Tumbarumba towards the entry to the Tumbarumba Golf Club to provide safe pedestrian access on this regular cycle route

An application for a road renewal project on Boundary Street, at the intersection of Waratah Street in Tumut’s industrial area to rehabilitate a high-trafficked section of the road will also be undertaken.
