Snowy Valleys Council and the Australia Day Council of NSW are inviting nominations for the 2020 Snowy Valleys Australia Day Awards including a new environmental champion category.

Recognising outstanding efforts by individuals or organisations to preserve the environment, reduce litter and improve recycling the unique environmental champion award is being run in partnership with Return and Earn.

Mayor Cr James Hayes says the new environmental award is a fantastic addition to the Snowy Valleys awards categories.

“The winner of this local environment award will also go into the running for the State award that includes $5,000 from Return and Earn towards their community initiative,” he said.

Cr Hayes is encouraging everyone to get involved in nominating deserving community members and groups for the inaugural Snowy Valleys Australia Day Awards.

”Australia Day is a time where we can all celebrate and recognise the achievements and dedication of locals that make the Snowy Valleys Region such a beautiful place to live,” he said.

“Our wonderful part of the country is home to a wide range of fascinating and diverse people from many backgrounds and cultures and it is so important that we encourage community involvement and volunteering by acknowledging those who go above and beyond for their communities”.
