A parcel of Council managed land at Lockeridge Park, Tumut has been approved for the development of an Evacuation and Multi-purpose Centre.

Snowy Valleys Council has approved the open space site at Lockeridge Park, on Simpson Street opposite the Tumut Hospital, due to its favourable geotechnical analysis, and the potential for further expansion.

The decision followed initial site investigations at Richmond Park and several locations within Lockeridge Park.

The Richmond Park site was ruled out after investigations identified it would require relocation of existing infrastructure and a change of land use and management to proceed.

Two parcels of land at the Lockeridge Park site, located along Richmond Street, were also ruled out after consultation with user group land managers.

Detailed site survey and sectional drawings are now being progressed and a concept sketch of the proposed building is being discussed with the working group.

The concept design will be made available in December for public viewing once it has been costed against budget.

Background

  • During 2021 planning and design works were undertaken for a proposed site on the Snowy Mountains Highway at the top of the Bull Paddock.
  • In May 2022 Council agreed to scope out alternative site locations with a view to reducing construction costs.
  • Council resolved at their August 2022 Council meeting to set up a community working group to consider the best location options.
  • In September 2022 Council approved site investigations and to progress planning at Lockeridge Park and Richmond Park.
