Follow Up  3pm Wed 10 April - RE STATEMENT ANZAC DAY 2024 - Following further discussions with the Batlow RSL Sub Branch today, Council is seeking to obtain the required road closure approvals and secure traffic control with the view of a march proceeding as part of Batlow’s 2024 ANZAC Day commemorative activities on April 25th. – Steven Pinnuck, Interim General Manager, Snowy Valleys Council.

SVC STATEMENT ANZAC DAY 2024

All ANZAC Day marches in the Snowy Valleys Council area require road closure approvals and traffic management plans.

The decision by the Batlow RSL Sub Branch to discontinue the ANZAC Day March for this year has been a result of miscommunication between Council and the Batlow RSL Sub Branch.

Snowy Valleys Council is continuing to fund the traffic management costs for the 2024 ANZAC Day marches in Tumut, Adelong and Tumbarumba.

Batlow RSL Sub Branch Secretary Ms Diana Droscher confirmed that the 2024 Batlow Dawn Service and main ANZAC Day Service would proceed as normal.

“The only aspect that is not happening this year is the march,” Ms Drosher said.

Snowy Valleys Council Interim General Manager Steven Pinnuck said that Council was committed to working with the Batlow RSL Sub Branch to ensure the ANZAC Day march is reintroduced in 2025 if that is their desire.

Mr Pinnuck confirmed that RSL Sub Branches across the region would not be subject to any Council charges for use of Council parks or venues for ANZAC Day commemorative activities this year.
