Multipurpose Centre Opens to the Public

Snowy Valleys Council and appointed venue operator LeisureSafe will welcome the community into the completed Multipurpose and Evacuation Centre (MEC) for the first time at a free Community Open Day on Thursday 3 September.

Running from 3.00pm – 7.00pm, the event will celebrate the completion of the construction project and mark the beginning of its next chapter as the Tumut Multipurpose Centre (TMC) an active, accessible and community-focused venue.

Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure and Works Philip McMurray said the Community Open Day is an opportunity for residents to see the completed venue for themselves, take part in activities and learn more about how the centre will serve the community into the future.

“This is a fantastic facility created for our community, and we are proud to see it completed and ready to be used,” said Mr McMurray.

“The centre will support greater participation in sport and recreation while also providing an important community asset that can be used in times of emergency, as well as a flexible space where people of different ages, abilities and interests can come together.”

LeisureSafe Director Declan Gillard-Martin said the organisation was looking forward to bringing the centre to life and establishing it as a welcoming place for the entire community.

“Our focus is on creating a venue where people feel safe, supported and encouraged to get involved,” Mr Gillard-Martin said.

“The Open Day has been designed to give everyone an opportunity to experience the centre in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Whether someone is a regular participant, trying a new activity or simply coming in for a look, our team will be there to welcome them.

“We look forward to working with Council, local clubs, schools and community groups to build a strong program of activities and make the centre a valued part of community life.”

The free Open Day will feature basketball activities in partnership with Basketball NSW, and introductory pickleball facilitated by LeisureSafe staff.

Free play games and activities will be available for children, along with giveaways and food throughout the afternoon. The event will cater for people of all ages and abilities

LeisureSafe staff will also be available to provide information about future programs, community activities and venue bookings.
