Community members and dignitaries will celebrate the opening of the new Ournie Community Hall on Saturday 10 December.

Snowy Valleys Council Mayor Ian Chaffey will join Justin Clancy MP to officially open the hall at 9:30am with the unveiling of a plaque and cake cutting.

The state-of-the-art community hall features amenities, kitchen, open community space, storage room and a wood fireplace.

The new community building replaces the old 100-year-old school building destroyed in the 2019/20 Dunns Road Bushfire.

Devastated by the loss of their beloved gathering place the people of Ournie railed together to rebuild, with a vision of a hall that all in the community could use for many years to come.

Everyone is invited to the opening and to enjoy a morning tea provided by the Ournie Hall Committee members. Funding of $740,000 was received under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, co-funded by the Australian and NSW governments.

The Ournie Rural Fire Brigade received $200,000 from Club Grants Category 3 Infrastructure, funded by the NSW Government and Snowy Valleys Council contributed $120,000 from insurance allocations. -ENDS
