Snowy Valleys Council is calling for enthusiastic locals to apply for casual volunteer roles at the Tumbarumba Visitor Information Centre (VIC), to help share regional knowledge and promote local businesses and events to visitors.

“Council is committed to keeping the VIC open on weekends and public holidays, when many visitors are exploring the region, and volunteers play a vital role in making this possible”, said Acting General Manager Jessica Quilty.

“By generously giving their time and sharing their local knowledge to enhance the visitor experience, volunteer support helps keep the centre running and contributes to the wider goal of promoting tourism and supporting local businesses in the Snowy Valleys and Tumbarumba more generally,” Ms Quilty explained.

Volunteer duties include greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing assistance with maps, activities, and suggested routes. Ideal applicants will have basic computer skills and availability on weekends and public holidays.

Local knowledge of Tumbarumba and the surrounding area is preferred but not essential. A welcoming and friendly attitude is the most valuable quality, with training and support provided to help volunteers grow into the role.

Shift days can be varied, weekends included, and volunteers can nominate their preferred days and times.

The Tumbarumba VIC is located in the heart of town, offering details on accommodation, attractions, events, road conditions, and weather.

Visitors can browse a selection of topographic maps, locally made products, and regional books, with a focus on showcasing the best local produce.

The centre is also home to a captivating historical museum, featuring detailed displays on Tumbarumba’s rich heritage in gold mining, timber, and mountain cattlemen culture. A Driver Reviver station is also available for travellers needing a break.
