Community members and local media are invited to join Snowy Valleys Council and past and present members of the Rotary Club of Tumut, for an official ceremony at Tumut’s Rotary Pioneer Park.

The ceremony, to be held on Tuesday 26 March, will officially mark the successful completion of the recent $1.33 million park upgrade and masterplanning project funded by the NSW Government’s Public Spaces Legacy Program.

As the first part of the project, Council developed a new comprehensive park Masterplan in consultation with the community that envisions the space for future generations and outlines forthcoming phases of development.

Stage one of the Masterplan has now been completed and includes key features such as the establishment of a new accessible public amenities building with connecting walking paths to both carparks; which were also resealed as part of the project.

Nature-inspired play spaces have been introduced, along with new playground equipment, more seating and picnic tables, pedestrian bridges, and more low-maintenance plantings.

Solar lighting along the Riverwalk from Rotary Pioneer Park through Bila Park to the entrance of Riverglade Caravan Park was also installed to improve walking and riding experiences.

The Tumut Rotary Pioneer Park has a long history of community involvement and care and was officially opened in October 1988.

Under the passionate guidance of Tumut Rotarian Mr Pat Cruise (dec.), what was originally a swampy wilderness was developed into a community asset that has enhanced the aesthetic quality and recreational potential of Tumut.

Rotarians have continued their involvement in the park over the ensuing years supporting the park’s amenity and upkeep as well as building both the BBQ shelters.

Approximately 15 years ago, Council added pathways and a playground to further enhance the park’s utility.

The Labyrinth for Peace, conceived and funded by the Blakeney Millar Foundation in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tumut and Council, was installed in 2017.

These latest improvements further enhance this well-loved park and make it even more accessible for local families, visitors, and people of all abilities.

To celebrate and acknowledge the newest upgrades there will be a plaque unveiling and cake cutting at the park.

All welcome!
