On Wednesday 4 October, Dr Joe McGirr MP, Member for Wagga Wagga, will join Snowy Valleys Council Mayor Ian Chaffey, Councillors and community members for the opening of the new Itinerant Worker Accommodation at the Batlow Caravan Park.

The ceremony will officially mark the opening of the $ 3.7 million Snowy Valleys Itinerant Worker Accommodation project jointly funded by the Australian and NSW government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

The project has provided an additional 60 permanent beds at the Batlow Caravan Park to support the local horticultural and forestry industries of Batlow.

The scope of works for the project included:

  • New Backpacker units
  • New Studio units
  • Camp kitchen (to support backpacker accommodation)
  • Accessible unisex amenities block + laundry + cleaning room
  • Updated park entry
  • Landscaping

Seasonal workers are essential to supporting the local horticultural and forest industries of Batlow, however much of the accommodation options for seasonal workers were destroyed by the Dunns Road Bushfire (including a 100-bed backpacker establishment).

All welcome!
