Green Waste Clean Up

A total of 23,025 tonnes of bushfire destroyed trees have been cleared from roadsides and public spaces across the Snowy Valleys under the NSW Government’s EPA Bushfire-generated Green Waste program.

Council selected 350km of high-traffic roads and popular recreation areas for the program including Paddy’s River Falls, Weemala Lookout, Miles Frankiln Drive, Tooma Road and Back Kunama Road. Priority was also given to fire trails accessed by emergency services.

All trees removed under this program were inspected by qualified arborists and ecologists. Council also engaged with neighbouring properties and left habitat trees and hollows for the local wildlife.

As the grant conditions prevented Council from selling the material  local contractors were engaged via Expressions of Interest to process and re-use the materials from the clean-up.
