New boundary signs have been erected for the eight main road entrances into the Snowy Valleys Local Government Area.

Acting General Manager Mr David Aber said Council was proud to identify the official boundaries of the Snowy Valleys Council.

“It is another important step in branding and portraying the Snowy Valleys community as a united group,” Mr Aber said.

The eight signs were designed to reflect a unified representation of the new Council community and acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the many Aboriginal lands that the Snowy Valleys Council traverses.

Made from long lasting, low maintenance materials, the modern structures signify the landscape, while emphasising the new Council branding.

“These boundary signs are not about losing the local identities of the villages and towns but rather to show that they are part of the bigger Snowy Valleys region,” Mr Aber said.

The new signs were first unveiled on the Tumbarumba Road, west of Rosewood and the Gocup Road, north of Tumut at Minjary.  The remainder of the signs are being rolled out on the Alpine Way at Khancoban, Snowy Mountains Highway at Long Plain and Mount Adrah, Jingellic Road at the Jingellic bridge, Holbrook Road and Grahamstown Road at Mount Horeb.

Work on the consultation, design and rollout of new town and village signs will begin in the New Year.

“It is important that the communities of our council are involved in the design of their new town entry signs and branding.

Preserving and celebrating the unique identities of our towns and villages has been a recurring theme in all of the consultation work undertaken through Administration as well as the vision work for Council’s 10 year strategic plan that is currently underway.

This will take time and we’re committed to getting it right,” said Mr Aber.
