2018 January youth holiday activities

The successful January youth holiday program for Snowy Valleys Council is into its second week with more activities and events for kids and youth on offer.

Mayor James Hayes said the summer youth holiday program was a great example of the breadth and diversity of activities council was able to deliver by working closely with community groups, local businesses and local artists.

“The community have certainly benefitted with an increased range of activities available for children and youth right across the Snowy Valleys Council area,” he said

More than 150 kids and adults joined in the fun at the Tumbarumba pool on Friday 5 January, enjoying free time on the Snowy Valleys Council skull island inflatable, music, games and a sausage sizzle.

Attendance at the other school holiday events has been solid, with great participation in the dreamcatcher craft and woodworking classes as well as an energetic and enthusiastic turn out for bubble soccer and archery tag last week.

Last Friday also saw budding chefs and barristers join Clara at Kat’s Whiskers Café to learn the finer points of pizza and coffee making.

The Despicable Me 3 movie night at Batlow pool scheduled for Saturday 13 January had to be postponed due to wet weather. Council is currently working on a new date to stage the event and hope to be able to communicate new details soon.

Activities still to come over the next two weeks include hip hop dance classes, drawing and felting art classes, fencing and sword fighting, upcycling craft fun and the IOTA F1 Racing Cars.

Tuesday 16 January sees Fencing and Sword Fighting at the Tumut Boys Club Hall from 10am and at the Tumbarumba RSL Hall on Thursday 18 January at 2pm.

There’s up-cycling crafty fun with Chris Horsley to be enjoyed at the Tumut Community Support Centre on Wednesday 17 January, Khancoban Hall on Friday 18 January, Batlow Lower RSL on Tuesday 23 January and at the Tumbarumba Artists on Parade on Thursday 25 January.

The IOTA race team will be on hand to help participants make their own paper racing cars to race on their 20meter purpose built track at the Tumut Boys Club Hall on Thursday 18 January at 11am.  Entry is a gold coin donation.
