The Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail, a new and significant series of sculpture collections, will launch with a four-day celebration from 5 - 8 May 2022 with over 20 sculptures in Adelong, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Tooma and the local Tumbarumba vineyards that have cellar doors.

Devised in consultation with the Snowy Valleys Council, a Local Community Advisory Group and members of the wider Snowy Valleys community, the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail will stretch 100km from Adelong to Tooma and is funded by the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.

Destined to become a world class sculpture collection, the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail aims to encourage more tourists to visit the region and for them to stay longer, with cultural tourists known to spend considerably more per day than other tourists.

The Trail will feature works by Australian and international artists, with many artists travelling to stay in the Snowy Valleys to see their works in situ.

The Trail will be opened on Thursday 5 May at Courabyra Vineyard by the NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres, followed by a Meet the Artists lunch at Courabyra Vineyard on 6 May and Community Days over the weekend.

The Community Days will be held on 7 May in the towns of Adelong, Batlow and Tumbarumba and 8 May in Tooma, with free public celebrations organised by the local communities. The Community Days will mark the public opening of the Trail including artist-led sculpture making workshops for the family, tours of the sculptures and special guest presentations. Free buses will run between Adelong, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Johansen Wines and Courabyra Wines throughout the day of 7 May, including Tumut pick-up and drop-off.

The Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail is being created by the team behind Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi and Cottesloe beach in Perth.

David Handley, Sculpture by the Sea Founding CEO & Artistic Director, said, “Thank you to the members of the communities across the Snowy Valleys for preparing the local celebrations in their towns to welcome visitors from across the Snowy Valleys. We look froward to hundreds of people in each town meeting the artists who have created the sculptures for their towns and to enjoying a wide range of free activities for all the family.”

The Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail will continue to expand with new artworks to be added later in 2022 and the first half of 2023.
