Locals and keen walkers are invited to join Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, and Snowy Valleys Council Mayor, Ian Chaffey, for Tumbatrek 2023.

Held on Saturday 11 February, this year Trekkers will enjoy an epic 15km walk along a section of the historic Hume & Hovell Track, through the Munderoo State Forest.

Community members can join the trek at a low cost of just $10 per adult and $5 per child, including morning tea and lunch.

An iconic annual event, Tumbatrek provides an informal opportunity for community and government leaders to discuss issues in the region while experiencing the beautiful landscape of the Snowy Valleys region.

This year buses will ferry participants from the Tumbarumba Creekscape to the starting point at Munderoo.

Trekkers will walk through Munderoo State Forest and climb to the top of Carboona Gap. Following a steep descent to Coppabella Creek, walkers will cross open farmland through the property, ‘Clear Springs’ and finish at the new suspension bridge over Coppabella Creek. Buses will then ferry everyone back to the Tumbarumba Creekscape for lunch.

Community registrations are open until Sunday 5 February 2023.

Contact Council’s Place Activation Officer Miki McPherson by email [email protected] or phone 02 6941 2509 to register.

Numbers are limited so don’t delay.

Attendees are advised to bring sunscreen, hat, water, and hand sanitiser with them on the day.

Tumbatrek was the original brainchild of the late Tim Fischer AC, former Deputy Prime Minister, who in 1985 along with a few keen locals wanted to promote tourism in the Tumbarumba region. It went into recess in 2007 and was resurrected in 2012 by Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack MP.
