Snowy Valleys Council has this afternoon lifted the Precautionary Boil Water Notice for Tumbarumba.

Council’s Acting Director Assets and Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said they have support from NSW Health to lift the notice.

“We have been working closely with NSW Health to resolve the situation and we thank them for their support in working with us so that the notice could be lifted in time for Tumbafest this weekend,” Mr Kausche said.

Elevated turbidity levels as a result of treatment plant issues were detected in Tumbarumba’s local water supply earlier this week and a precautionary boil water notice was issued to residents and businesses until Council and NSW Health were confident there was no public health risk.

“Our teams undertook additional water sampling and flushing of the water supply network along with the normal operational monitoring of the water supply,” said Mr Kausche said. “Water samples were also sent for microbial analysis and the results were shared with NSW Health.

“Council and NSW Health are now confident that there was no public health concern”.

Residents are advised that some water discolouration may be experienced as Council continues flushing its water hydrants to refresh the system.

“When the pipes are flushed it can sometimes unsettle the sediment that sits in the bottom of the pipes causing the water to be discoloured or ‘dirty’ but if you let the tap run it will clear,” Mr Kausche advises.

“We thank the Tumbarumba community for their patience and goodwill while we worked through this situation and wish them all the very best for a fantastic Tumbafest”.
