Water Supply Update Following Extreme Heat Conditions

Snowy Valleys Council is closely monitoring water levels across all water storage areas throughout the region following recent extreme heat conditions and an extended dry period.
Following a very dry January period, source water flows have seen a steady reduction for most Snowy Valleys town water supplies.
Acting General Manager Nick Wilton said the situation remained manageable but required careful monitoring.
“While all town water supplies are currently operating under Level 1 restrictions, the prolonged dry conditions and reduced source flows mean we need to plan ahead,” Mr Wilton said.
“If we do not receive meaningful rainfall in the coming days, Council may have no option but to move to Level 3 restrictions to protect water security across the region.”
With cooler temperatures expected from Sunday, Council staff will continue to monitor water levels and weather conditions closely.
Both Tumbarumba Dam and Kunama Dam are currently at 100% capacity, but restrictions are based on source flows before storage starts to drop
Commercial water access through fill stations and standpipes will be affected under Level 3 restrictions.
“If level 3 restrictions are implemented, the use of water filling stations in Batlow will not be permitted and any water filling required will be directed to Tumut,” said Mr Wilton
“Commercial operators will be advised of any changes, and we appreciate the community’s cooperation and encourage everyone to continue using water wisely.”

Level 1 Water Restrictions
- Use sprinklers and irrigation systems only between 5.00pm and 10.00am
- Water gardens only with a handheld hose & trigger nozzle or a bucket
- Clean hard surfaces like driveways only with a handheld hose & trigger nozzle
- Wash cars on grass with a trigger nozzle or at a commercial car wash
Restrictions apply to all residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
