Working Together to Prepare for Emergencies
Published on 03 November 2025
Snowy Valleys Council, in partnership with the Australian Red Cross, is encouraging local residents to take part in a series of free ‘EmergencyRedi’ workshops this November to help individuals, families, and communities prepare for emergencies.
Held in partnership with Council’s Library program, the one-hour workshops are practical, interactive sessions designed to help people start their own simple Emergency Plan and learn how to prepare, respond, and recover when emergencies occur.
Mayor Julia Ham said Council was proud to support initiatives that strengthen local emergency awareness and resilience.
“The Snowy Valleys is no stranger to natural disasters, and supporting residents to be better prepared is an important part of building a safer, stronger community,” Mayor Ham said
The workshops will be led by Peter Makryllos, who has been a paramedic in Tumbarumba since 2018 and joined the Red Cross this year to share his knowledge and educate communities on how they can be proactive about preparing for different types of emergencies.
