Khancoban Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project
- Project typeInfrastructure Upgrades
The Project
The Khancoban Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Upgrade project will replace the town's aging system with a modern facility designed to meet best-practice environmental standards and safeguards public health for the local community.
The multi-million-dollar project will involve developing a concept and detailed designs, conducting an environmental assessment, and constructing a new modern WWTP to current health and safety standards.
Originally built in 1965 as part of the Snowy Hydro Scheme, Council took over management of the facility in 1993.
Now, having exceeded its design life, the existing WWTP is ready for replacement. The new facility will ensure Council continues to deliver high-quality wastewater services to the community through improved system reliability, effluent quality, and environmental improvements for the local area.
The Treatment Plant Upgrade project is fully funded from Council’s Wastewater Reserve.
Project Status
At the December 2024 Ordinary Meeting, Council awarded a contractor to prepare documentation for the Concept and Detailed Design of the Khancoban Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Detailed designs are expected to be completed by June 2025 with construction works to follow.
