At the March 2023 Ordinary Meeting, Council approved moving forward with key infrastructure upgrades at our pools, funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
At Tumut Pool, the backwash tank was replaced to ensure environmental compliance, addressing ongoing issues with the old system’s retention and water management. The new underground system is located near the bike racks at the Richmond Street side of the pool.
Additionally, important Work Health & Safety concerns were resolved, and extensive re-grouting was completed. As part of essential maintenance for this aging facility, the pool was drained during the off-season, and works were finished in time for the 2024 season opening in mid-October.
At Batlow Pool, the backwash tank was also replaced to meet environmental compliance standards.
More improvements are scheduled for after the 2024-25 pool season, including upgrading the chemical dosing systems at Tumbarumba and Khancoban Pools. These systems are vital for automatically maintaining safe chemical levels in the water, ensuring a healthy environment for swimmers. With the new systems, our teams, who already test water daily, will see improved efficiency while meeting regulatory requirements.
In addition, a disability-compliant access ramp will be installed in Tumbarumba’s 25m pool, similar to the one at Tumut Pool, enhancing accessibility for all.
