Batlow Caravan Park upgrade - units being craned in

The new backpacker units have arrived and are being stored on concrete slabs at the Batlow Cannery while site preparations at the Batlow Caravan Park are progressed.

The ten prefabricated buildings were constructed offsite and trucked into the Batlow Cannery this week.

Site preparation works have also begun with surveyors marking out the locations where the buildings will be permanently installed.

Snowy Valleys Council is extending the Batlow Caravan Park and installing multiple new buildings as part of the Itinerant Worker Accommodation Project to increase accommodation options and availability in Batlow.

The project will provide infrastructure that supports the ongoing demand for the accommodation of tourists and itinerant workers in Batlow, by providing dorm-style accommodation that will assist local industries in housing seasonal and construction workers supporting the recovery of the region.

Council received $3,952,571 from the NSW Government's Bushfire Industry Package – Sector Development Grants for upgrades at the Batlow Caravan Park.

$570,151 was used to fund the Bushfire Emergency Accommodation Council built at the Caravan Park in March 2020 following the 2019/20 Black Summer Bushfires.

The remaining $3,558,420, plus a Council Co-Contribution of $176,000, has been allocated to increase modes of accommodation available for itinerant workers who are employed in the horticultural industry across the region.
