Careers Expo a Hit with Students

Local youth employment opportunities and pathways were the topics of conversation when high school students from across the region came together at the 2023 Snowy Valleys Careers Expo.
Held at the Tumbarumba Showgrounds on Wednesday 29 March, the Careers Expo connected businesses and industry in hands-on activities with local high school students, sharing the skills of their industry and answering pathway and employment questions.
The event hosted an enthusiastic atmosphere with 220 Year 9 - 12 students attending from Tumbarumba, Tumut, Batlow, and Gundagai High Schools.
Feedback was very positive including the wide range and variety of exhibitors and how well-run the event was.
Exhibitors included NSW Education Standards Authority, Charles Sturt University, Defence Force Recruiting, VERTO, Transport for NSW, TAFE NSW – Tumut, Valmar Support Services, Floor Covering Institute of Australia, WesTrac, Brennans Quarries, Visy, AKD, Hyne Group, Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Forestry Corporation, Elders, Hutcheon and Pearce, Resilient Towns Initiative, NSW State Emergency Service, Tocal Agricultural College, Ray White Rural Tumbarumba, Grantrax Earthmoving, Snowy Hydro, Tumbarumba Bendigo Bank, Bush & Campbell Accountants, NSW Ambulance, Elders Riverina Hills, Three Blue Ducks, Nest Cinema Cafe Books, Tumbarumba Bakery, GTES, PHE Tumut, NSW Local Land Services, APM Employment Services, Future Generation JV, Shearing Contractors Association of Australia, Australian Trading Company and Kestrel Recruitment.
Snowy Valleys Council partnered with the NSW Regional Industry Education Partnership (RIEP) to host the careers expo, following a successful inaugural event held in 2022.
