Tumut’s Bull Paddock Youth Precinct in Fitzroy Street is set to receive a new amenities block and a permanent Driver Reviver site with works slated to begin by the end of this month.

Snowy Valleys Council CEO Matthew Hyde said he is pleased to see the latest improvements to the recreational space get underway.

“The Bull Paddock is one of the most utilised recreation areas within the Snowy Valleys, for locals and visitors, and these latest upgrades will put the finishing touches on this fantastic precinct area which includes the recent successful skate park expansion and the 2019 Pump Track build,” Mr Hyde said.

The new amenities will have improved disability access and has been designed to blend into the natural environment aiming to reduce opportunities for anti-social behaviour.

“The current amenities are in very poor condition and are not meeting the expectations of users,” said Mr Hyde.

“The new amenities will be located closer to the playground and adjacent to the new permanent Driver Reviver site, making the area a much more family friendly destination for locals and visitors.

“The playground fence will also be extended to enclose the entire playground which I am sure will please local families.”

Tumut’s Lions Club received $150,000 in funding under Round two of the NSW Driver Reviver Site Upgrades Program for construction of six off-highway parking bays, an 8 x 8 metre concrete slab with overhead protection, three permanent picnic tables and a purpose-built food trailer to host Driver Reviver programs.

The Driver Reviver program operates throughout Australia during school holidays and over long weekends to reduce fatigue-related crashes on local roads.

“We applaud the Tumut Lions Club’s support and operation of the Driver Reviver program and this project represents a great example of Council partnering with local groups for the health and safety of drivers,” said Mr Hyde.

Construction is set to begin by the end of October 2021 and aiming for completion in early Autumn 2022. The playground will remain in operation during the build process, however there will be some localised areas closed for short periods due to new work interfaces with the playground.

Council received funding of $300,000 under the State Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (round two) for the new amenities build.
